Evidence-based practice refers to adherence to psychological treatment approaches and strategies that are based on scientific evidence. Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, and behavior activation are some of the most commonly-used evidence-based treatment approaches for psychological problems such as depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder among children, adolescents and adults. Another approach that has shown promises for difficult-to-treat psychological problems is dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). DBT is an effective treatment for individuals with emotion dysregulation problems who often rely on ineffective, sometimes self destructive, and/or avoidance strategies to cope (e.g., substance use, self harm, binge eating, gambling). For more information about the effectiveness of DBT and for whom DBT may work, please visit DBT Research Evidence and How DBT Helps.
At Wise Mind Centre, we are committed to provide evidence-based psychological treatments with competence and compassion. Our team is comprised of primarily psychologists who are regulated by the College of Psychologists of BC (CPBC) under the Health Professions Act. Why choose to work with psychologists? Psychologists in general have approximately 10 years post-secondary education, over 3000 hours of supervised practical training, a rigorous registration process, and the requirements of ongoing continuing education, maintenance of ethical standards and regular practice reviews.
