Dr. Gurpreet Singh is a Licensed Psychologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia (#2551). Born and raised in the Vancouver area, she later completed her graduate education and clinical training in the USA. Her academic background includes a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology from an APA-accredited program, complemented by a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Counselling.

Each and every one of us has a mental health, just as we have a physical health. Both exist on a spectrum and it is a normal part of the human experience to experience challenges, changes, and ups and downs in either area. Just as we turn to medical professionals for physical concerns, seeing a psychologist for psychological concerns is equally normal and valid. Unfortunately, stigma still surrounds seeking mental-health support, and that can make reaching out feel difficult. Remember, you don’t have to suffer alone, and more importantly, you don’t deserve to. Caring for your mental health is not a sign of weakness; it’s an essential part of being human.

Client Experiences: Dr. Singh has experience treating a wide range of issues, as noted above. Dr. Singh can also help with general emotional issues, gaining deeper self-understanding, and letting go of unhelpful patterns or behaviors that interfere with daily life. She can also support you in increasing emotional resilience, exploring identity-related concerns, learning new skills, and achieving behavioral goals.

Treatment Approach: Dr. Singh uses a variety of evidenced-based treatment approaches, as noted above. Her approach is highly individualized, and she places great value on collaboration and open, transparent communication with her clients. During the initial sessions, Dr. Singh works closely with clients to develop a treatment plan tailored to their current symptoms, goals, and needs. She believes that while the therapeutic process involves a great deal of learning, it also requires unlearning long-held patterns and that self-compassion is an essential part of this journey.

Dr. Singh’s therapeutic style is warm, non-judgmental, and compassionate, while also being direct and appropriately challenging. Research consistently shows that the therapeutic relationship is a key factor in successful treatment outcomes. For this reason, it is of utmost importance to Dr. Singh that the therapeutic relationship feels safe, supportive, and built on mutual trust.

Clinical Experiences: In addition to her private practice, Dr. Singh also works at an occupational rehabilitation clinic as part of an interdisciplinary team. She provides treatment to adults who have experienced physical and/or psychological injuries in the workplace and who may be coping with chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and PTSD/trauma related problems. Within the PTSD program, Dr. Singh frequently works with first responders: including police officers, firefighters, paramedics, dispatchers, and correctional officers, as well as health care professionals, housing support workers, industrial workers, truck drivers, and individuals from many other occupations.

Dr. Singh has provided psychological treatment and assessment services across a wide range of settings. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Petaluma Health Center, a primary care clinic in the California Bay Area, where she worked alongside medical professionals and offered therapy, behavioral health services, and crisis consultations to adults, adolescents, children, and families. Dr. Singh completed her APA-accredited residency at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) Student Counseling Center, providing individual, group, and couples therapy, as well as crisis services to undergraduate and graduate students. During her time at UNLV, she also served on the eating disorder treatment team and worked as a behavioral consultant at the Student Health Center.

In addition to these roles, Dr. Singh has worked in community mental health centers, outpatient medical clinics, academic settings, and forensic environments. She has led mindfulness meditation and interpersonal process groups, and has taught psychoeducational classes on a variety of mental-health topics.

Client Diversity: Dr. Singh is committed to providing culturally sensitive and responsive care. She welcomes adults of all ages, ethnic and racial backgrounds, gender identities, socioeconomic statuses, sexual orientations, physical abilities, and religious or spiritual beliefs. Much of her training was focused on serving underserved and marginalized populations, an area she is particularly passionate about.

Services: Dr. Singh provides individual and couples therapy for adults (19 years and older) and offers services in both English and Punjabi.
