Dr. Deng offers in-person appointments at our Burnaby/Central Park office.
Dr. Xiaolei Deng obtained his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from UBC. He completed his residency (2023) and worked as a staff psychologist (2024) at the Max Rady College of Medicine in Winnipeg, Manitoba. During his time in Manitoba, Dr. Deng provided inpatient consultations in various settings, including adult & geriatric psychiatry, surgery, ICU, and rehabilitation services. Since moving back to Vancouver, Dr. Deng has started a position in the Royal Columbian Hospital, providing psychological consultation to inpatient units, including pediatric, geriatric, and other medical units. His outpatient clinical interests include trauma, loss, anxiety and depression, perfectionism, OCD, training and performance optimization, chronic pain, somatic complaints, insomnia, caregiver stress, stress management, rehabilitation challenges, personality traits, and interpersonal difficulties in individual, couple, and group formats.
In addition to his clinical service, Dr. Deng taught motivational interviewing classes to family medicine residents and provided supervision and demonstrations to senior practica students and medical clerks. He also developed and delivered a series of training seminars on personality patterns, providing education to mental health professionals in both hospital and community settings. Dr. Deng fosters a secure and respectful therapeutic environment and integrates a range of theoretical frameworks and techniques, including acceptance and commitment, interpersonal, cognitive and behavioural, and mindfulness approaches. He supports clients in expanding their capacity to explore and tolerate a broader range of experiences, an approach that often leads to improved functioning and promotes personal growth, such as increased feeling of ease and security, the development of new behavioural and relational patterns, and most importantly, the ability to continue growing independently. Dr. Deng is a Licensed Psychologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia (#1017317). Please note that Wise Mind Centre is not a vendor of ICBC and WorkSafe BC. Dr. Xiaolei Deng does not accept ICBC or WorkSafe BC referrals.
